I swear, I'm going to rip my uterus out.

I caught part of House tonight, and it was really good. Color me surprised, because I've felt like the show has kinda sucked for the last season or so. I love Hugh Laurie to death, but the formula's gotten incredibly tired and trite. I liked the switchup tonight.

Also, Christian de la Fuente is hot stuff.

I want to see Iron Man again. Dunno if this is the start of a new fandom, but it's been absolute ages since I've wanted to go see a movie in the theatre over and over and over.

I watched Atonement today, and dear god, that was incredibly depressing. Excellent and beautifully made, but gut-wrenchingly sad. I had to cheer myself up afterward with X-Files.

X-Files watched today:
--Herrenvolk
--Home ♥
--Teliko
--Unruhe ♥

"Herrenvolk" is... eh. It's okay, but not one of the best episodes. "Home" may be icky, but it's so awesome. I love Mulder and Scully's discussion about having babies, and dude, Scully asking about the Mulder family's genetic muster? This is how people with a background in hard science flirt. XD "Teliko" is a strange episode. Weirdly, I love listening to the African accents. I also love how Scully has to charge in and save Mulder's poor, paralyzed ass. "Unruhe" is one of my favorite episodes, mainly because Gerry Schnauz is so freaking creepy. Holy crap. Mulder gets to charge in and save Scully, and Scully gets to hide her emotions because she's already broken down and cried in front of Mulder a couple of times, and she's got to save face.

The horses are doing well, the dogs are cool, we have a shit-ton of baby birds in various and sundry nests around the house (including one built on top of our patio light, eep), the plants are still alive...

Everything's pretty good. :)

Just finished Witch Blood by Anya Bast.
I didn't like this one as much as I liked the first one. It felt disjointed, like random bits of plot were thrown together without much thought for cohesiveness. Unfortunately, the sex scenes felt incidental; in Witch Fire the sex was seamlessly integrated into the plot, but in this one, the developing relationship and accompanying smut between Isabelle and Thomas seemed like it was tossed in just to make the story a romance novel. This is sad, because good lord, Anya Bast can write some hot sex scenes.

The world the witches live in was more fleshed out in this book than in the first, which is nice, and there's the potential for Bast to develop a really cool 'verse for her stories. There's a bit of a problem with expository dumps; information about the 'verse shouldn't be dropped on the audience in a page-long pause in the story, but rather integrated into the plot. The main characters are likable enough, but Isabelle just didn't grab hold of me and make me pay attention to her. I think Thomas is a much more interesting character, but alas, his story is for the most part over.

2008 Books: 37

Up next: Down Home Zombie Blues by Linnea Sinclair. Surprisingly enough, it's a futuristic romance. And a paranormal or something. Not quite sure how to classify it at the moment, but oh well.

As for the X-Files rewatch, I just watched "Talitha Cumi," so that's it for season 3. Time for season 4, woo!

[whispers] My mother is forcing me to watch the CMT Awards. I don't know how many more eighteen year old, shrill-voiced country starlets I can take. Please, send in the rescue squad. Actually, just send Iron Man.

Before we get started: I've made an X-Files 2 wallpaper. It is pretty and shippery and maybe a little spoilery (it's the new promo image from People mag). [happysigh]

2Shy )

I'd watch "The Walk," but I just saw this one. Can't remember when or why I watched it, but I know I've seen it in the last couple fo weeks.

So... Oubliette )

Also watching:

DUDE. Deep Throat is my gran's ex-husband's ex-wife's brother. So I'm... [counts] five degrees from David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson. XD

When I got home, my dad said, "Hey, I want to watch the next X-Files episode, the one after the "To Be Continued" thing from last night." I've turned my dad into an addict. Heh. So we watched "The Blessing Way" again, and then moved onto...

WTF? I know I turned the satellite off last night, dammit, and it was on the History Channel. I got up this morning and the satellite was turned on, and was on CBS again. This is just weird. I guess the receiver reboots or something in the middle of the night, but I can't imagine why it changes itself to channel 11.

I found out over the weekend that my parents are getting horses. One of his coworkers has two horses, twin females, that his wife is afraid of. Dad's buying one and my uncle's buying the other, and they're going to put up a fence and a paddock in the two acre pasture beside the house. Dad's paying for them today, and they'll be delivered here as soon as the fence goes up.

Completely random thought. Last night, I was watching some apocalyptic documentary about how humans could be destroyed, and I had an idea for a short SF story focusing on a few characters in the time leading up to the Earth's destruction by a black hole encounter. I'm planning on making one of the characters a Buddhist, and that character and another had a conversation in my head this morning about reincarnation.

So here's my thought. Say for a minute that you believe in reincarnation. What happens when there's no more Earth? Are we not reincarnated anymore? Do our souls go elsewhere, to some other planet that can support life, or do we get stuck in reincarnation limbo?

And now I need to brush my teeth, pack up Umeko-laptop, and head to campus. We're talking about The Wonderful Wizard of Oz in fairy tales class tonight, and I really hate that book. Ngh.

And X-Files watched since my last post:
  • End Game
  • Død Kalm
  • Humbug ♥
  • The Calusari
  • Soft Light
  • Our Town
  • Anasazi ♥

I skipped "F. Emasculata" because I really wasn't in the mood for exploding pustules. Might watch it later, but Dad and I were eating dinner at the time, and... yeah.

"Humbug" cracks my shit up.
"For instance, did you know that through the protective Chinese practice of Tiea Bu Shan, you can train your testicles to draw up into your abdomen?"
"Oh, I'm doing that as we speak."

The kid in "The Calusari" rivals Dakota Fanning for sheer creepiness.

I must have skipped "Soft Light" last time I watched season 2, because I don't remember a damn thing about that one. I was quite surprised to see Tony Shalhoub.

"Anasazi" is a fantastic episode. So damn much happens, but it doesn't feel rushed or like they're cramming in too much. Krycek is, in fact, a rat bastard. Scully should be given an award for putting up with Mulder, especially when he's cracked out on LSD in the water or whatever. And we had lots of shirtless Mulder, which makes me a happy fangirl.

And so now I'm finished with season 2. Woo!

And now I'm going to bed. I am one sleepy fangirl. Here's hoping I have dirty dreams about Mulder. And Scully. Not that I'm greedy or anything.

That's... odd. When I turned off the satellite last night, it was on BBC America. I got up this morning, and the receiver was turned on. It was on channel 11, "Meet the Press."

I'm the only one in the house with opposable thumbs, and Jack was in his carrier last night.

We must have ghosts or fairies, but either way, they think I need more politics in my life.

Starting Ye Olde X-Files again.

Fun M/S flirty moments:
"Did you catch the bouquet?"
"Maaaaybe." -Roland

"If there's an iced tea in that bag, it could be love."
"Must be fate, Mulder. Root beer." -Tooms

Episodes watched this weekend:
  • Young At Heart
  • E.B.E.
  • Miracle Man
  • Shapes
  • Darkness Falls
  • Tooms
  • Born Again
  • Roland
  • The Erlenmeyer Flask

Season one has some real hits and misses. I ended up bored through many episodes, except for the great little flashes of flirtation between Mulder and Scully, and getting to watch them start and stop along the line of trusting each other. ♥

Favorite Episodes:
  • Pilot
  • Squeeze
  • Ice
  • Eve
  • Beyond The Sea ♥

And now, I start season 2. :D

Haha. Scientific American pwns Ben Stein hardcore.

Random X-Files thought: Scully's season 1 hair looks like Rosemary Clooney's in White Christmas.

On tonight's X-Files rewatch agenda:
  • Beyond the Sea
  • Genderbender
  • Lazarus

Y'know... i'm not in the mood for the commentary tonight. Think I'm going to play some Sims before it gets too late.

WHOA. I think it's about to storm here. Thunder just scared the crap out of me and the dog. I swear I'm going to lock him up in his carrier if he doesn't stop barking at every thunderclap.

I dreamed last night that I was buying a house. The house was really cool, too. It was an odd layout (this is the second strange house I've dreamed about in the past few weeks), but it was really cool. I should try to draw it up and recreate it in the Sims before I forget it.

X-Files rewatch time! I can squeeze one episode in before work. IF I don't have to shut down Umeko-laptop because of the storms.
